Regarding our hotel

Q. How early can I make a reservation?

A. Up to 6 months in advance

Q. Can I make a reservation without a credit card?

A. Yes, you can pay in cash or with credit card when you check in.

Q. Can I make a reservation over the phone?

A. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we ask that you make a reservation through our official website. If you are having trouble, please let us know and we will assist you.

Q. Can I change meal plans or the number of guests after making a reservation?

A. Regarding stays with meal plans, you can change the number of meals, but please do so 7 days before your check-in date. Regarding stays without a meal plan, you can increase the number of guests up to the day before check-in. However, for a decrease in the number of guests, you must contact us 7 days before check-in, at the latest.

Q. I am considering a multi-day stay, can I request a meal plan for only 1 day?

A. Yes, it is possible. When making a reservation, make sure to select the “no meal plan” option and let us know in the “questions and comments” section that you would like a meal plan for only 1 day.

Q. Are pets allowed?

A. No, pets are not allowed.

Q. Are children allowed?

A. Yes, children are allowed. Young children that require bed-sharing can stay for free. Elementary school children fall under the “children’s fee” and middle school children and up are the same price as adults. Furthermore, we do not provide sleepwear for children, so please prepare in advance.

Q. Are there early check-in and late check-out options?

A. No, we do not have an early check-in or late check-out option.

Q. Can I send my luggage ahead of time through the post?

Q. Can I leave my luggage with you before check-in?

A. Yes, you can. Please inform us ahead of time.

Q. Are solo travelers allowed?

A. Yes, we welcome solo travelers.

Q. Are there bugs?

A. Yao-Kumagawa hotel is situated within nature, so in spring and fall, stink bugs may occasionally appear. We always clean and double check the rooms before your check-in, however, bugs may still appear, and we ask for your understanding in this matter. Within each room we’ve prepared equipment to deal with bugs, so you can rest without worry!

Regarding meals

Q. What time is dinner?

A. All dinner meals will be brought to your room directly between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Our staff members will need to enter your room to set up dinner, so we appreciate your cooperation and understanding.

Q. Is there a meal plan for kids?

A. Yes, there is. It is like the adult’s meal plan but with fewer items and smaller portions.

Q. Are there any restaurants that serve dinner within the neighborhood?

A. No restaurants in or nearby Kumagawa-juku, within walking distance, are open for dinner. There are multiple western-style and Japanese-style places to go within about a 10-minute car drive. Feel free to email us, or message us through our official LINE or WhatsApp for more information.

Q. Are there any places to shop within the neighborhood?

A. Yes, there is the Kumagawa Roadside Station for buying omiyage or presents. By car, there is a massive supermarket called “PLANT-2, sort of like a Costco, and a convenience store within a 10-minute drive.

Q. What if I have an allergy?

A. If you have an allergy, please add it to the “Questions and Comments” box when making a reservation. There are times where the price may change based on your request. Also, we cannot guarantee to accommodate your likes and dislikes.

Q. Can I bring my own food and drinks?

A. Yes, you can bring your own food. Regarding seafood, there are certain ways to dispose of it, so please let us know beforehand. We cannot bear any responsibility for any food or drinks that you bring, so please be aware.

Regarding the hotel facilities

Q. Is parking free?

A. There is a public parking lot for use. You can park as many cars as you want.

Q. Are the rooms non-smoking?

A. Each room, including the main office Hishiya, including vapes are non-smoking. You can smoke outside your home, but make sure to take the butts of your cigarettes with you.

Q. Is there a washing machine?

A. There is a washing machine in three of our homes, Hibari, Tsugumi, and Yamane. There is no dryer nor drying function.

Q. Are fireworks allowed?

A. There is a specific area within Kumagawa-juku to do fireworks, please ask us for more information. We are also able to lend out a bucket, if you need one.

Q. Is there hot water and drinkable water in the home?

A. Yes, there is an electric kettle to prepare hot water. We have a selection of special drinks prepared in your room, with one per adult guest. Soft water from the Uriwari Falls, Kumagawa Arrowroot Tea, Nakamichi “sencha” tea, and drip coffee from the café next to Hishiya. You can also drink tap water, it is safe.

Q. Is there sleepwear?

A. We offer three sizes that work for both genders, M, L, and LL or XL. For children in elementary school and under, we do not offer any sleepwear, so please prepare ahead of time and bring your child’s sleepwear with you.

Q. Are there TVs?

A. No, there are no TVs.

Regarding services

Q. Are there any shops?

A. At our main office, Hishiya, we sell an assortment of locally produced and handmade goods, alongside some drinks including alcohol. For more on what we sell, look at this article.

Q. I’m thinking about coming via public transportation. Is there a shuttle to and from the nearest station?

A. No, there is no shuttle.

Q. Is it possible to buy anniversary or celebration desserts?

A. You can place an order via this website. The dessert will arrive at Hishiya and be placed in your room’s fridge before your check-in. If you do place an order, please let us know however you can.

Regarding our online store

Q. After placing an order, can I cancel or make a change?

Regarding visits

Q. Can I visit and view your main office and rooms

A. We appreciate your interest in our properties, but they are spaces for our customers to relax in, so we would ask that you refrain from visiting, especially without any kind of notice. If you have special circumstances or would like to visit, please send us a request via our homepage’s contact form.

Regarding Kumagawa-juku and sightseeing

Q. Generally, what times are the shops within Kumagawa-juku open until?

A. Most shops are open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. A lot of the shops are closed during the weekdays, so please be aware of this. If you have any specific inquiries, feel free to contact us.

Q. Does the lounge area, connected to the main office Hishiya, have any days off?

A. The cafe, named Sol’s Coffee, is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. From Thursday to Monday, it is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
